Another birthday party

This time at the American Girl store. Lily was invited to her friend Grace's birthday party. Since she doesn't have a fever anymore and seemed to be feeling pretty good we decided to let her go. When I dropped her off I talked to some of the parents from her class and all of the girls that were there ( 4 from the class ) had been sick with the flu this week! All in all 8 kids from Lily's class had  been out with the flu and a total of 32 Kindergartners at our school!
She had a good time at the party but was pretty tired when I picked her up. We looked around the store for a few minutes and then she asked if we could go home. Later that afternoon she took a nice long nap.

A little scary but funny

Let me just say that Michael was right there although not in the picture and no one was hurt. Lucas just didn't realize the window was open ;).

Turning point

It's been a rough couple of days for Lily. Tuesday was even worse than Monday. I've never seen her this sick, she was just laying in bed completely miserable. Her cough has gotten worse too and yesterday she could only whisper. This morning she still had a 101.3 fever, she threw up after taking her medicin but after that she started to improve. Yes, she's all druged up on Tylenol and Motrin but this afternoon she got out of bed and was playing in her room. And after dinner when we told her she could go out in the backyard for a little bit ( the weather was absolutely gorgeous although a little too hot) she was jumping up and down of excitement. It's great to see her like her normal self.

Tamiflu for everyone!

That's right! Lily tested positive for the flu today. She got sick last night with a fever and in the middle of the night she woke up and vomited. She's been miserable all day with a high fever, achiness and a little bit of a cough. After dinner we decided to take her to the "after hours" clinic to get her tested for the flu since we knew it's important to diagnose early if the antiviral medication is to work. At the Dr's office her temperature was 103.2F (39.6C) and sure enough she tested positive on the nasal swab. All of us were prescribed Tamiflu, Lily is taking full dose for 5 days while the rest of us are taking half dose for 10 days as a preventative measure. Let's hope the rest of us are spared.

On a lighter note, here are some pictures from yesterday. We went to Emma,Kate and Sophie's 3rd birthday party. The party was at a pony party place which was actually a private residence where they do these parties and give riding lessons etc. It was such a gorgeous day, it could not have been more perfect.

I can't believe I did that!

Let me start by saying it's been a long week and I'm exhausted! On an average night (when Michael is not home) I get about 5-6 hours of sleep. Usually I don't make it to bed until between 11 and 12 and that's not because I'm up watching tv ;). After the girls go to bed around 9pm I have lots of clean up to do, preparations for the next day and the boys usually wake around 10 to nurse. I do take a little bit of time to catch up on emails and blogging but that's it, I hardly ever watch tv because there is no time. Not only do I go to bed late but the boys wake up once or twice during the night, most often they want to nurse....probably a bad habit, I know. I rarely get more than 2 hours of sleep in a stretch and then the boys wake for the day around 6am, if they do sleep in for once my alarm goes off at 6:20am.
This morning the boys woke up at 5am, way to early!!! They were not happy campers in there so I decided to let them nurse and see if they'd go back to sleep. After nursing they were wide awake but I put them down and went back to bed, hoping to get at least a few more minutes of sleep. I lay there listening to them chatting away but finally we all fell asleep. The next thing I know Maddie and Lily are standing by my bed. The radio (my alarm) is playing and I look at the time....it's 7:10! I had been sleeping with the radio on for 50 minutes! I can't even remember the last time I overslept. The boys were still asleep which was a good thing. In less than 20 minutes the girls had had their breakfast, their lunches were packed, they were dressed and ready to go. They even had time to watch a DVD for a few minutes while I changed the boys. I dropped them off at school at our normal time, 7:45am. Not bad!

Video of the boys playing

Here's a short video from today. Lucas is playing with the car and Jacob is the one walking.

Jacob is walking about 95% of the time now. He is doing so well! He's turning, twisting and squating with ease. He seems to prefer walking to crawling at this point although he crawls once in awhile to chase a car or a ball ;).
Lucas on the other hand is taking it slow,  he cruises really well and is working on taking a step here and there without support.

It feels like spring!

We've had a gorgeous day today, warm and sunny. It feels like spring! The boys and I played outside in the afternoon and then we walked to pick up Maddie and Lily at school. This is a pic of the playground on our way home with Lily on the left riding her scooter.

Jakie's exciting afternoon

Yesterday afternoon mommy left me in the playarea to go change my brothers diaper. When Maddie and Lily also left the room I decided to escape. I figured out how to push the gate open, it was a lot of work but I've practiced pushing my walker with the brakes on so I'm pretty strong. I was so excited to get out all by myself! I ventured out in the living room but then, somehow, I stumbled and fell on my face and started crying. Of course this alerted mommy and she and brother came running to find me, I was busted! My lip was bleeding a little but other than that I was fine. That gate won't keep me in the playarea anymore, mommy's gonna have to figure out something better ;).

Happy Valentines day!

Yes, I know it's tomorrow ;). But since tomorrow is Saturday the girls had their parties and valentines exchange at school today. Michael went to their classrooms for the parties. The kids made a craft, played games, ate a treat and exchanged valentines with their friends (cards and candy).

Lukie in deep thoughts.

I had bought these cute Valentine cards and stickers for Maddie and Lily that I hid somewhere in the house, my usual hiding spot is in our closet. This time I can't remember where I put them and I've searched everywhere. Instead I found the Valentines card for Michael that I couldn't find last year, haha. My memory is terrible nowadays. I'm sure they'll turn up eventually, maybe in time for next years Valentine's day.

Severe thunderstorm

Last night we had one of those scary Texas thunderstorms pass over us. The girls had just fallen asleep when the storm hit. We turned on the TV for weather news and they urged people in several areas (including ours) to take cover in an interior room because this storm was very strong and capable of producing tornados. Michael went to wake up the girls while I went to get the boys. Lucas had woken up by the thunder and wind and was crying, as I handed him to Michael the Sirens came on. This means everyone needs to take cover immediately. I ran to get Jacob who was still asleep and we all took cover in our bathroom. It is not a good feeling when the sirens wail and you hear the storm raging outside, the kids were doing fine but I would be lying if I didn't admit that I was scared. We sat there for about 30 minutes until the storm had passed and the kids could go back to bed.
At least Michael was home this time.

Catching up with friends

Sunday we went with our friends Brenda and Fredrik to a park where we had a lunch picnic. We flew kites and played on the swings. Since we had not seen each other since before Christmas we exchanged christmas gifts. Brenda and Fredrik had bought such nice gifts for our kids. Maddie got Trivial Pursuit for kids, Lily got a game called Operation and the boys got a real nice wooden stacking train and some books.

Then Sunday evening we had an old friend over for dinner. Richard is a friend from the Aviator (flight school) days, he's also from Sweden and lives in Barcelona. He happened to be in town for his recurrent training. We had not seen each other since the day we left Aviator for Michaels first job. It was really fun to see him.

Monday night I went to the movies with a group of girlfriends. We met at the Cheesecake factory for dinner (drinks only for me) and then we went and saw "He's just not that into you". There was 10 of us swedish girls, some I had not seen in a while so it was a lot of fun. The movie was "so so", pretty good but felt a little long and it's very much a chick flick.

Two birthday parties for Maddie

This afternoon we had a birthday party for Maddie. She had invited some of her closest girl friends to our house. Everybody got to paint a wooden jewelry box to take home, we ate pizza and ice cream and the girls played. Luckily it was a warm day and we could do our craft outside on the deck and the girls could bounce on the trampoline. I think they had a really good time.

Maddie wanted ice cream instead of cake.

The girls wanted to let a balloon fly away in the sky.

Here it goes!

Tonight Maddie is at a slumber party at her friend Taylor's house. Her first slumber party! Taylor turns 8 today and her parents are taking her and 4 of her friends (including Maddie) for dinner at the American girl bistro. They are all bringing their american girl dolls and the dolls will have a seat at the dinner table. Afterwards they're going back home to watch an American girl movie and they are all spending the night. Maddie was so excited when I dropped her off, I bet they will have a lot of fun tonight!

Happy Birthday sweet daughter!

Happy Birthday sweet girl! I can't believe you're 8 years old today! We are so happy that you are a part of our world ( I hope you liked the card ;) ) ! You are such a wonderful daughter and an amazing big sister. We love you so much!

We took the day of for Maddie and Lily so they did not have to go to school today. We still got up and celebrated real early. The boys woke me around 6am and Lily got up shortly after that, she probably heard us and was too excited to go back to sleep. I had a feeling that Maddie was awake waiting for us so as soon as "mormor" and "morfar" got up (around 7am) we woke Maddie up with singing and cake. Turns out she was still sleeping, she looked pretty tired when we woke her. She opened her gifts and we ate cake for breakfast like we normally do on birthdays.
For lunch she wanted pizza so we ordered delivery from Papa Johns. I think she had a really nice day.
