Here's a video of last nights finale of Maddie's performance.
I'm sorry the picture isn't very good, I was filming with one hand while holding a squirmy boy in the other. Maddie did an awesome job yesterday, I'm so proud of her. She wearing a brown t-shirt and is standing a little to the right towards the top.
My sister and her friend arrived today from Sweden, the boys and I picked them up at the airport. We had a busy first day ;). We went straight from the airport to pick up Maddie and Lily from school, perfect timing! Back home for a tour of the house, snacks, lots of gifts, playtime and dinner before heading back to school to watch Maddie and all the 2nd graders perform after the PTA meeting. The girls are having so much fun with Emelie and Janina, they were a little shy at first but after a little bouncing on the trampoline the ice was broken. The boys are curious, Jacob is not so sure still (stays close to mommy) but Lucas is already acquainted.
After the kids went to bed we stayed up and talked and talked, stayed up way too late but it was so much fun.
I just had to make a post, before going to bed, and post a few pictures from today.
About a week ago the boys went from waking 2-3 times a night to only waking up once around 3-4am. And for the past two nights Jakie has slept all night without waking up! I hope I'm not jinxing myself by writing this ;). It's been really nice! Although this morning I woke up before they did because it had been 12 hours since Jacob nursed and my right breast was uncomfortably full. I was seriously considering waking him up so he could nurse but luckily he woke up shortly thereafter. We don't usually nurse before breakfast but we may have to change that routine if he keeps this up. I thought they would never sleep through the night :).
Here's a pic of Jacob sleeping that I took the other day, he looked so cute with his puppy dog that I had to take a picture and risk him waking up from the flash.
After a busy day of shopping (Whole foods and Kroger) and gardening we decided to relax with a nice dinner and a family movie. The movie was more for the girls, High School musical 3, but it was good. For dinner we had NY strip steak, french fries, steamed asparagus and Hollandaise, delicious. Before going to bed we're just catching up on some emails and other things and I thought I'd make a quick post to add a couple of photos of the boys sporting their new big boy pj's. The remote controls were a distraction to get the to sit still for a second so I could take a picture ;). Jacob left, Lucas right.
In a post a few weeks ago I mentioned how Jacob already loves airplanes. Well, so does Lucas. Lucas has become a real pro at spotting airplanes in the sky, many times he sees it before we do. Today we went for a walk in a really nice park and we saw several airplanes. At one point I was feeding the boys from a banana as they were sitting in the stroller and just as I held out the banana for Lucas to take a bite (remember, bananas is Lucas favorite food) he heard an airplane and he literally hit the banana to move it out of his face so he could look for the plane. So cute!
Michael came home from work yesterday afternoon and he had bought a little gift for the boys, a boardbook about airplanes. Here's my boys reading together.
We had just come inside from playing in the front yard when I saw this animal in our back yard this evening!
We watched it for a good 45 minutes before it got dark and now I don't know where it is. We called our neighbors that we had just been out playing with and she said I should probably call animal control to report the sighting so I did, although it was an answering machine so I just left a message. Our city's animal control website had a very informative section on bobcats. It said that bobcats usually take off running when they see people and that you should try to scare it away by making as much noise as possible. Their diet consists mainly of rabbits and rodents and to get rid of the bobcat you need to eliminate the food source. We have TONS of rabbits in our neighborhood so there's no wonder he likes this place and getting rid of them will be hard if not impossible. A rabbit did come in the yard and the bobcat watched it closely, tried to catch it once but stopped when the rabbit ran away. He may have been waiting for it to get darker. The kids will not be playing in the back yard for a few days and I'm definitely not taking the boys out there.
Update: 9:30pm I got a knock on the door, somebody had seen the bobcat and called the police. Two policemen informed me that they had chased it out of our back yard. Hopefully it stays away.
We've had a few changes around here lately. The biggest one being....
Goodbye play yard, hello family room!!! The boys world just got bigger. They're free to move around the house and they are loving it! It's been about a week now and although life got a lot busier with chasing our little buddies all over the house it also got easier in a way. Before I could not leave them in the play area to go into the kitchen without them starting to cry, now they just happily follow me around.
With twins it's not just double the work by having two to chase around you also have to protect them from each other. This week I have saved them countless times from being slammed in the face by a door (regular or kitchen cabinet) or from being floored by one. One boy will be standing by a cabinet, door open, looking at things inside and the other one comes up from behind the door ready to slam it shut only to hit his brother...not good!
Lucas loves to push things around the house...a chair,a box or the exersaucer and he won't stop for anything or anybody. Watch out brother! We have to be on the lookout at all times, ready to come to the rescue.
Our goal was always to take down the play yard when they could walk well. We ended up doing it a little early, we just didn't feel good about restricting their world. More work for mom and dad but it's worth it!
Jacob and Lucas looking out the window in mommy and daddy's room.
Playing with daddy in the kitchen.
Jakie found a bag of napkins in one of the cabinets.
Lucas watching Maddie and Toni play the Wii.
The other big change has been the time change with daylight savings time. The boys used to go to bed around 6pm and get up around 6am. Now, they're going to bed between 7-7:30pm and sleep until 7am. This is working really well so far, although I haven't had to try it on a school day by myself since Michael was home last week and this week is spring break.
Last night we went to the park (see pictures in previous post) and stayed out pretty late. The boys went to bed at 7:30pm and Lucas had not even had an afternoon nap, guess what time we got up this morning .....8:45am! I could not believe my eyes, it was so nice! But hold on....they didn't sleep all that time, they nursed before I went to bed around 11pm and then I was up between 4-4:45 or so. Still a great night for us!
The 2nd graders have been studying forrest animals and all the children were assigned a special animal to do a project on. Maddie studied weasels. She was supposed to make a diorama and prepare a presentation for her class. We got some information on weasels from the library and she made all her models from clay and painted them after they dried. She has worked really hard and it turned out beautifully. She brought it to school today and she was first to make her presentation. Her teacher said she did a great job and set the tone for everyone in class, she had gone beyond of what she was required to do. We're so proud of her!
Here she is practicing for her presentation. The flash cards contains key words for her to remember the facts. They were not allowed to write sentences to read.
Today the boys had their 1 year check up with their pediatrician. They were not as relaxed this visit as they've been in the past but over all they did really well. Both boys are meeting their milestones and there's not much to report. We are still watching Jacob's back and if his issues has not resolved by 18 months we may be referred to a special clinic. We are not to concerned since he is walking and developing fine. They got 2 shots each today, polio and prevnar.
Here are their stats;
19lbs 13oz (6th percentile) and 29 inches (15th percentile)
19lbs 9oz (3rd percentile) and 28 3/4 inches (10th percentile)
Lucas has only gained 7 oz in the past 3 months and grown 1/2 inch while Jacob has gained 10 oz and grown 3/4 inch. That's not a lot but our Dr. is not concerned, she thinks they look healthy. Looking back and comparing pictures you can definitely tell that they have slimmed down, probably because they are so active nowadays.
March 6th 2008 was my actual due date with the boys and so today their corrected age is 1 years old! Just thinking about how fast they are growing up has me feeling a little emotional. And today I sold our infant car seats and snap n go stroller so that doesn't help, there are so many memories attached to all the baby things. On the other hand I was happy to find a buyer, a young woman who just found out she's pregnant with twins.
Today was a really hot day for being March, 27C outside, but the wind made it pretty comfortable.
Here are a few pictures of the boys swinging in the backyard this evening.
These babies have become such fun little boys, here's what they're up to now;
What a character! He loves to laugh and act silly to make other people laugh. He likes to look himself in the mirror of the "sing along stage" and make funny faces. It's the cutest thing and I was lucky to catch him on camera yesterday. He also likes to wear things on his head and walk around looking silly, preferably with whatever it is at the moment covering his face so he can't see and he bumps in to things. Today it was Jakie's lovie (a tiger) and a wash cloth, yesterday it was a onesie.
He's been such an easy boy lately. He eats really well and almost anything in any texture which is great because it wasn't always like this. He's very patient and most of the time he doesn't mind waiting his turn. If I'm nursing Jacob, Lucas will patiently do something else until the second Jakie is done, then he comes running or should I say crawling ;) for his turn. And he always does this special laugh when it's time to nurse, it's so cute!
Oh....and the other day he took his first steps! Now he takes a step or two here and there, still not in a hurry but it won't be long until he's walking all the time!
Jacob's lovie on my head!
Doesn't he look like such a big boy!?

Such a sweet and smart little boy. I think this one will follow in his daddy's footsteps and become a pilot, he already loves airplanes! Today as we were hanging out in the playarea he heard a plane outside, he stopped and looked at me with big eyes and with his hand in the air he made airplane noise (pshhhhhhhh....ok something like that). Then he looked towards the ceiling ( he knows the airplanes are in the sky ) and then back to me before going to get the "Little people" airplane. He's just so smart!
This boy is constantly moving, he just loves the fact that he can walk so sitting still is not an option. He walks back and forth, back and forth either holding a toy or checking out different things. His favorite toy lately is a "little people" schoolbus.
Jakie has been suffering from a little bit of separation anxiety lately. He wants mommy or daddy close all the time. It makes it a little hard on us but it's ok, we know it's just a phase and he's just so sweet that you can't help but love it. I usually hang out with them on the floor and Jakie will be walking around but every few minutes he'll stop by for a quick hug or to be held for a few seconds...he doesn't have time for more than that ;).
