Reading in bed

Lucas and Jacob just love books. Lately during their afternoon "naps" I've let them bring books to bed because they usually don't sleep anyway. Well, tonight as they were going to bed both of them brought books to their rooms. They got furious when I took them away so I decided to let them keep the books. It took them a little longer to go to sleep but at least they were happy. When I went to check on them later I found them like this.

A first at the grocery store and a surprise package

Today at the grocery store Maddie and Lily convinced me to let the boys sit in the car that is the front of a grocery cart. I have not tried this before because I was worried they would not sit still. Maddie and Lily pointed out that the car have seat belts and after some begging I decided we'd try it. The boys loved it....of course!  And they actually sat still the whole time, towards the very end I had to pull out the snack traps however as they were starting to work their way out. The O's did the trick and we made it out before they had enough. We were in and out in about 15 minutes so it wasn't a long shopping trip though.

Jacob and Lucas

Lucas took command over both wheels while Jacob was taking a snack break.

Before stopping at the grocery store we made a stop at the post office to pick up a package from mormor and morfar (grandma and grandpa) so back home the kids were all excited to open it. Maddie and Lily loved their jackets and vests and the boys were thrilled with their new balls! Maddie and Lily quickly opened the soap bubble kit and started blowing bubbles for Jakie and Lukie, they had lots of fun. Thank you, surprise packages are so much fun! And thanks for the candy and inotyol ;).
The boys loved playing with the box too.

The boys at breakfast

This is a video from this morning.
Jacob always begs for apples at mealtime since the fruit basket is right next to him and he loves apples. Lucas is the master of silly faces, he's such a goof!
They sure make up for getting us up early in the morning by their sweetness.

What we've been up to

I haven't been in a blogging mood lately so it's been awhile since my last post. Here's a little of what we've been doing this past week.

Maddie and Lily each had friend here on a sleep over Monday night. Michael took all 4 girls to McDonalds for dinner while I put the boys to bed. Then they stopped at Blockbuster and picked up a couple of movies. Back home they watched their movies in their rooms (on our portable DVD players since they don't have tv's in their rooms) and ate popcorn. Then they decided that all four of them were going to sleep in the same room so they all moved into Maddie's room. Lily's friend finally fell asleep around 11 pm but the rest of the girls were up past 2 am....yikes! Michael and I didn't go to sleep until closer to 3 am and then they were all up by 7 am. The girls had a great time!

On Tuesday night I went to my "mothers of multiples" monthly meeting. We had two guest speakers, one from Kindermusik and one that was talking about parenting with love and logic. They served dinner in between. The parenting topic was very interesting and it's something I'd love to learn more about.

Wednesday afternoon we went to North Park mall. Michael had an appointment to get his cell phone checked out and we decided to make it an outing for all of us. We had a snack in the food court and the boys got to walk around the mall a little bit. When it's this hot outside it's nice to walk around the inside malls.

Thursday was spent preparing for another week of Michael working. I did all my grocery shopping, we did laundry, some general cleaning and packing for Michael....a very exciting day as always - not.

This morning we all got up early to drive Michael to the airport, he had to be there by 7:30 am.
Later in the afternoon Maddie's friend Celeste came over to play. We were not able to get hold of any of Lily's friends but Maddie and Celeste let Lily play with them which was nice. They all got along very well and had a fun afternoon.

We're looking forward to some "cooler" temperatures in the next few days, mid to lower 90's ( 30-36C) instead of the 100's as it's been for a few weeks. I'm not sure we'll get out that much more anyway but we'll see.

A Birthday celebration

Happy Birthday Michael, the best father and husband anybody could ask for!
Michael unfortunately had to work on his birthday which was yesterday but it was the last day of his 7 day tour so he came home in the evening. The girls and I had baked his favorite chocolate cake (den dejliga) using dairy free butter and chocolate chips, it turned out delicious,  if I may say so myself. So at 9:30 last night we celebrated with cake and presents. Michael had wished for Rock Band 2 for his birthday so that's what the kids and I got him. Since the package was so big we decided to hide it behind the sofa and make a treasure hunt, he had to follow clues to find it. The girls really enjoyed it. Today he got to choose what to have for dinner, that's a little tradition we have when it comes to birthdays. Michael decided on fondue, we all love fondue and it's so much fun to do. Here are a couple of pictures.

Problem solved....

for now ;).
Yesterday was an exhausting day. Actually it started off not too bad. The boys took their nap in the morning, we ate lunch and then we headed to the library. It was the boys first time at the library and they had so much fun. We have a fantastic library, only 2 years old and very nice and bright. There's an area in the back of the library for smaller children, lots of board books, little arm chairs, tables and a puppet theatre. The boys had a great time looking at books and getting in and out of the arm chairs. Maddie and Lily picked out some books and a couple of videos.
Below are some pictures. I know I take a lot of pictures and yes I bring the camera everywhere we go. Thanks to Eva (grandma) who gave us her old camera when she bought a new one we have a nice small camera that fits in my purse or pocket so I'm always ready to catch a moment on picture. Thanks Eva!

Lucas and Jacob relaxing (haha) in the arm chairs.

They almost fit in one together.

Lucas is staring down some older kids and their mom who thought he was cute ;).

Let's check out the books for older kids too!

That was fun but the rest of the afternoon was exhausting. We came home, it was hot and the boys wanted to have a snack (nurse) and they were having a meltdown. After nursing they were finally happy and started to climb on the sofas. Our sofas sit pretty high, we have hardwood floors, the cushions are a little bouncy and the boys do not know how to get down themselves (or they kind of do but they're not very careful about it). This along with the fact that they have no fear whatsoever makes this activity not very safe which then means I have to stand there the whole time helping them up, helping them down, making sure they don't fall off while bouncing or fall head first off the side when hanging over the edge and so on. I can handle this a little while but I soon get tired of it and then it's time to get started with dinner and they really need to stop. I finally got them to stop just to move on to another "not safe" activity, pulling down the toy bins and standing in them....they are very slippery on the floor. Times like this I really really wish we had carpet intsead of wood floors!
So I admit, all afternoon I was watching the clock just waiting for it to be 7 o'clock so I could put the boys to bed. And when they were finally asleep I felt a little bad because after all they are such a joy to be around and they're just being adventureous little boys and I need to give them the opportunity to climb and do all those things. So this morning I came up with an idea. I have turned our loveseat into the boys climbing sofa. I took all the cushions off to make it easier to get up and down, it also makes it so that they can't hang over the sides or the back. I also used some of our foam mats that we've had in a different area to put in front of it just in case they do fall. It's not a plush carpet but it makes the fall a little softer. The boys really like this new arrangement and it's kept them busy most of the morning. It doesn't completely keep them away from the other sofa but it does help. We'll see how long it lasts. I really want to get them this climber/ball pit/slide:

It would be perfect for our little climbers and I know people who have this and they love it. It's just a little expensive. Maybe I will get it after all, I'll keep thinking about it ;).

Jacob and Lucas in the big sofa, actually sitting down for 2 seconds ;).

The solution, Lucas in the sofa and Jacob holding a pillow.

Out on our deck

I finally picked up some new video tapes for our camcorder so I can start video taping more. Here's a clip from yesterday morning.

Playing at the park.

We've had a few days with cooler temperatures which has been nice. I'm talking upper 80's/lower 90's so still hot but much better than 100's as it's been lately. Yesterday after dinner I decided that we had to take the opportunity and get outside so we went to the park. First we played at Maddie and Lily's school park for awhile. When chasing the boys up and down the play structure (made for 5-10 year olds) got a little exhausting we went to our neighborhood park that's right next to the school. It was nice to get outside without getting soaking wet from the heat but I quickly realized I'd be in trouble if I didn't have Maddie and Lily to help me with the boys. Both wanted to climb the play structure, then Jakie headed towards the basketball court where a group of boys were playing (you know....he loves balls) and Lukie decided to say hi to the little dog that another mother had tied to a park bench while she was playing with her daughter. Then Lukie decided to say hi to a group of women that were meeting for some kind of exercise group, they had a big exercise ball that he had to check out. They tasted the wood chips, walked in the ornamental grass in the flower beds etc etc. I love how they explore everything but it's really, really hard if you're by yourself. Maddie and Lily are such awesome big sisters!

The boys checkup

The boys had their 15 month checkup this Friday, just 2 months late.
All in all it went really well. Here are their stats;

Height - 32.5 inches, 69 percentile
Weight - 21 lbs 9 oz, 6 percentile
Head circum. - 18.5 inches 33 percentile

Height - 31 inches 24 percentile
Weight - 20 lbs 7 oz 3 percentile
Head circum. - 18.25 inches 18 percentile

I suspect that one on the height measurements is off because I really doubt there's a 1.5 inch difference between them.
Lucas got one shot and Jacob got two because he was behind on one. They also did a CBC (complete blood count) on them which is standard at this visit. They both did really good. Lucas only cried a few seconds at the end of the blood sample collection, I guess he felt the nurse had done enough squeezing of his finger.
We're looking into doing a food sensitivity test on them to see if we can figure out exactly what they are sensitive to. It's not the same as an allergy test. Our pediatrician does not think we're dealing with allergies because that usually presents with more symptoms than digestive issues ( like rashes, wheezing etc), she thinks they have sensitivities. It will be nice to know what precisely they react to.

We're also getting a referral to a Pediatric Orthopedic hospital for Jacob. The muscle difference in his back has not resolved completely and although he is doing perfectly fine developmentally we're doing this as a precaution just to make sure there's nothing to be concerned about. It will most likely be several months before we get in however.

Happy 4th of July!

We spent the day the same way we usually do....relaxing at home.
Hamburgers, corn on the cob, chips and watermelon for lunch. Strawberries, ice cream and cookies for dessert. Swimming in the backyard. Watching the fireworks at night. Michael and the girls from atop the car somewhere close to the show, me from the backyard while the boys were sleeping. It's been way too hot but we had a good day anyway.

Lucas and Jacob love corn on the cob.

Lucas going head first off the slide. This was after the malfunction that made the pool/slide deflate and the water flow out so there wasn't much water left.
